Chapters Eighteen & Nineteen

Pete is worn out by the time he gets to the musical revue at the Platen estate. All he wants to do is catch some shuteye, but the sights and sounds are too incredible and irresistible to ignore. Just when he is sure he can take no more and asks to go back to his room, his encouraged to take part in the final event of the night—a themed school dance. There he works up the courage to dance with his crush, Edni. The experience proves to be the icing on the cake of the amazing day Pete has had.
Have you ever had a wonderful sensory overload experience? Perhaps your first time going to camp, or another country, or a theme park? Not everyone can handle that much stimulation. How do you know when to keep going and when to say enough is enough?

☐ Picnic supplies
☐ Internet access

There are tons on YouTube), Ghirardelli chocolate squares with sea salt (as "fish food"). If using the Tactile version, give students blowing bubbles.
If you're decorating for the Wonders Under the Sea dance, you may want to get: mini grey balloons for gravel, pool noodles cut to look like seaweed, a treasure chest (box with hinged lid) to put Cola bottles in, sea shells, a bubble-maker. 1. ⏪ RECAP previous chapter - As you recall ... When we left Pete, he was vacillating between wanting to go home and having another meal on campus before leaving
2. 🎨 CREATE & 🔨CONSTRUCT
- Easy paper hot-air balloon craft OR paper mache hot-air balloon
- Design & draw your own flying carpet
3. 🎭 RE-ENACT & MOVE
- Have a picnic
- 💃 Teach kids to waltz
- If using Tactile version, let kids blow bubbles during the dance
- At the end of the lesson, hand out Ghirardelli chocolate squares with sea salt (as "fish food")
- 🗣️ Can you pronounce “cheriste som” better than Pete? Do your remember how to do the accompanying gesture? [Right hand on heart, fingers of left hand flat on mouth]
4. 🔎 RESEARCH
- What’s an invocation?
- According to pages 19 & 20 in Piddlypedia, what time is “ipi dura”?
- What does “alo cheriste pless” mean? Have the students look it up on the Omni Ocademy’s YouTube channel. [Here’s the specific video. It means “and then love more” by the way]
- Using the glossary at the end of the novella, give the definitions for Caretaker, Aetherean Guide, and Scion
- According to page 20 of Piddlypedia, what do Damswell and Trulum refer to? [Damswell is the 1st part of season 2 in Omni reckoning and goes from September 1 - October 10 in our calendar. Trulum means Wisdom and is the 9th day in the 10-day Omni weekly calendar]
5. 💬 DISCUSS (Highlights from Teachizz™)
- Refer to passages in the book that deal with the theme of sensory overload
- 🧠 During the lesson, ask students to recall the name of the comic book series [Amazing Adventures]
- What do you do when you're feeling overwhelmed?
- 🦄 Ask students to describe how they envision the theatrical performance
- At this point, which elements do you like most and least?
- 🗝️ If you have the Tactile version of the story, what was the hidden text in Chapter Nineteen?
*indicates a character or activity not specified in the narrative
a perfect way for group members who are either too young or too advanced for the lesson's specific subject matter to get involved
- Have a *narrator read aloud parts of the story while others re-enact
- Have a member of the group come up with a makeshift version of the outfit Pete found (for the person portraying Pete to wear). Get creative with making suspenders and spats ⧓
- Have non-students in the group come up with their own Amazing Adventures comicbook ideas and perform them as a *skit at the end of the lesson
- Let little ones portray the *CHiRRuP cricket chorus and chirp a song they know for everyone
- If it can be done safely, take a wee one on a flying carpet ride around the house or yard (most likely on a scatter rug or welcome mat)
- Invite non-students to *share the picnic and then *waltz with the group. (Grownups who are not leading the lesson might even put the picnic baskets together!)
- Have everyone "walk like crabs"
- Invite non-students (in your household or friend circle) to participate in the Discussions, Omnopoly Quiz Game, Ponderlings, Writing Prompts, Noshes, Creative Projects, and Group Activities
