Chapters Twenty-Four—Twenty-Six
They say you only get one chance to make a first impression. In Pete’s case, the first impressions he made during his 2-for-1 interviews did not make the kind of impact he would have liked.
Fortunately, the volunteer sessions gave him opportunities to meet other members of the elements for the first time and make a better impression on them. Simultaneously, the members of the elements were making an impression on Pete and aiding him in determining where the elements ranked for him in terms of interest and compatibility.
Joining a group, club, team, or even company is a two-way street. It has to be a good fit for both parties. This is a great topic to discuss, as we are presented with new opportunities to join with others throughout our lives. What values do you want to impart during the conversation?

Pete had just been to the most delightful tea party in lieu of the element-estate tours that were called off due to an explosion attributed to the rebels. Just as he was settling in for the evening, someone unseen called to him and lifted him, but it was not Esperança.
2. 🎭 RE-ENACT & TAKE ACTION
- For the scene when Pete meets his Guiding Light Counselor, 🎩 Feel free to dress the student playing Pete however you like. If you want to go pro, he’s wearing a reminder, he’s wearing a white button-down shirt, white pleated trousers, leather galluses, a navy-blue sports jacket, and a rainbow-striped bow tie. For Miss Catrwal, you’ll want:
- red wig
- eyeglasses accented with flames (stick-on gems & embellishments may be fun as well)
- chain for her glasses
- quill pen for behind her ear
- sparkle-embellished inhaler
- 🪥Unless you’re in the middle of a meal, have students stop what they’re doing and go brush their teeth 😁
- Re-enact a Two-for-One, allowing the students to come up with the questions to be asked (with 2 people interviewing 1, if possible)
- 🚌 If you'd like to go on a field trip at some point during the story, this would be a good time. Consider visiting a charitable organization such as a pet shelter or whatever best suits your family

- 🔠 Consulting the novella’s glossary, what are the descriptions of Jṻngabyst [Omnivorous spike-hided mammal particular to Dim Sigma’s Sloven Plains; able to kill prey with its breath] & Dimension Sigma [the dimension of change]
- 🔠 According to the glossary, what does validata mean? [a graduate]
- Have students use Google Translate’s Detect Language function to look up “Vér så góð”. [It can be either an Old Norse or Icelandic way of saying “You’re welcome.” Technically, it translates to “You’re so good.”]
- 🗣️ Have a student explain the food-freezing-and-cooking transistor radio in their own words (as briefly described on page 90)
4. 🤔 DEDUCE
- Why might Pete feel uncomfortable in Dim Sigma? [because he does not like change]
- 🔠 What do the various words in the shop name Habitual Habiliments & Haberdashery mean? [basically, it refers to clothing and hats worn regularly]. And what does the shop purvey? [school uniforms i.e. the clothing students wear regularly]
- 🔠 The Naturim word “skolier” is not in the glossary. Any guesses as to what it means? [student, learner] Thus, the students taking this lesson are skolieer (the plural version)
5. 🎨 DRAW, DO, MAKE, or DESIGN
- 🌿 Similar to Pete pruning trees and potting flowers, have your young ones do some gardening
- ✂️ If you have the Destiny by Design ComiColoring Companion, you’ll find a simple cut-&-color page featuring Miss Catrwal’s glasses. Otherwise, you can purchase ‘cat-eyeglasses’ from Amazon or Oriental Trading Company and add flames you cut out of colored paper
